Flu Season 2018

Jenner House Surgery is now taking flu vaccination bookings for 2018. There are two vaccines available for this season, one for patients aged 18-64 years who have a chronic condition that classifies them as ‘at risk’  and one for patients aged 65 years and over.

We have organised specific clinics for each patient group, please see the list below & contact the Patient Services Team to book an appointment.

More information about the two vaccine types can be found here: https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/vaccine-ordering-18-19-influenza-season-gp-pharm.pdf

Why come to the Practice?

  • We have your full medical record available
  • There are three vaccines in total for the 2018 season and therefore it is very important that the clinician has the patients’ medical history in front of them, to ensure the appropriate vaccine is given to the appropriate patient, dependent on their age.
  • Attending the Practice for your vaccination ensures that your medical records will be fully reviewed before the vaccination is given.

Supporting your practice to improve our services to you

  • In addition to the safety benefits of having your vaccination with us at the surgery, for each patient that attends the Pharmacy for their vaccine, the practice suffers a financial loss.
  • As you will have noticed our profits over the recent months have contributed to significant changes within the practice, for example, we are in the process of completing a number of practice refurbishments for the benefit of our patients. Attending the Practice for your vaccination will help us to continue to improve our premises and services for the benefit of our patients.

Responsible use of NHS resources

  • We also care about NHS resources and therefore have planned the season to avoid wastage of vaccine, last year we used all but 14 vaccinations ordered!

What is an “at risk” group?

Patients are defined in an at risk group if they have a condition or their circumstances mean they may be more susceptible to getting flu. NHS England define the groups as:

  • Pregnant
  • Weakened immune system:

  • Being seriously overweight (BMI of 40 or above
